It was nicknamed the Pagoda due to the optional inward-curving hardtop.<br \/>\nIn 230 SL (1963\u20131967), 250 SL (1967) and 280 SL (1968\u20131971) versions, with manual or automatic transmission, it was produced 48,912 times.<br \/>\nThe W 113 marks a transition from the rounded shapes of the previous model to a simpler style. &quot;Pagoda&quot; was the first SL model in which extensive safety measures were introduced.<br \/>\nThe 250 SL followed in December 1966. The engine and brakes are slightly modified from the 250 SE.
