The beginnings of the NSX date back to 1984 with the HP-X concept (Honda Pininfarina<br \/>\neXperimental) [2] which was a mid-engined 3.0-litre V6 sports car and<br \/>\nrear wheel drive. Honda committed to the project with the goal of meeting or exceeding the performance of the current one<br \/>\nFerrari&#039;s V8 engine, while offering reliability and a lower price. That&#039;s how the concept developed and it was named<br \/>\nchanged to NS-X, meaning \u201cNew\u201d, \u201cSportscar\u201d \u201ce X perimental\u201d, [3] although the production model was launched as NSX.<br \/>\nGordon Murray, designer of the McLaren F1 supercar, stated that he used the NSX as inspiration for the F1 after<br \/>\ntested a number of high-performance cars and found the NSX chassis to perform best. Murray stated that he did<br \/>\na design &quot;monumental&quot; to the design of sports cars. He found that he would<br \/>\nthe car easily handled more power and tried to convince Honda to develop a more powerful engine, but was refused.<br \/>\nThis led Murray to develop a BMW-powered F1, but he liked the NSX so much that he bought it for his personal<br \/>\nuse and traveled 75,000 km with it.
