Three different iterations were made, with a total final production of 115,413 units over 20 years and seven<br \/>\nmonths. Originally developed on the platform of the then current XJ sedan, the XJ-S was known for its distinctive rear ends<br \/>\nstruts. The early styling was partly created by Jaguar&#039;s aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer \u2013 one of the first designers to be in the<br \/>\napplied advanced aero principles to the cars \u2013 sadly Sayer died in 1970 before the design was completed.
